September 28, 2022

Went to dinner with Kenz. It was so wonderful. We chatted and laughed and enjoyed some pizzeria Limone. I see her often but it’s not usually just her so this was such a great idea.

September 24, 2022

D and I finally checked off visiting Great Basin National Park. Our thoughts were - kinda cool with bristlecone pines and small alpine lakes and a rock moraine. But how did this get “National” standing?

Hotel nevada in the “heart” of Ely. Much better than the Diamond D in Delta we looked at that we would have had to share a bathroom.

Hiked the alpine lakes loop and added on the trail to the glacier that was mostly covered in rocks and not very big. But the bristle cone forest was cool and hiking over all the rocks was also cool. The fall leaves were starting and the trailhead had pretty fall aspens. After our hike we ate lunch and it was another great lunch spot for 2022.

Then we drove home with a stop at the Sev in  doubto Delta for a drink. Came home to terrible news that the Algers were in a bad car accident. My scripture reading included Alma 38:2 - look to the Lord your God.

September 17, 2022

Ran for the first time in 3 months. I had to break it up and didn’t run very far for fear of a knee set back but it was nice to enjoy the early morning clouds and sky while doing more than walking.

Then off to work while Darren hiked all day.  Some frustration as he went to emerald lake. I knew he wanted to finish that hike last week but didn’t because I was there. I need a new hobby.

Mason and Rachael stopped by for a minute. Pizza pie cafe for dinner.

September 16, 2022

Hanging with Cam on a Friday night was fabulous. A little Panda Express and then she watched an episode of Bear Grylls with me.

Was reading my journal from September 2016. Funny stuff. Also found this gem of a quote:

"There are seeds of happiness planted in every human soul. Our mental attitude and disposition constitute the environment in which these seeds may germinate. There is as much need for sunshine in the heart as for sunshine in the world. Today as perhaps never before mankind needs encouragement and cheer.

September 13, 2022

Sadie said it was a lame day at school. I’m convinced it’s because we forgot to look for the goat on the way to school. We had looked for him everyday before.

Also, Cam rocks online school.

September 12, 2022

My sister sent this picture to me and said that dad won’t let her help move the sticks to the shed. And there are a lot of sticks we collectors yesterday. Stubborn or persistent? Probably both, but this picture sure makes me smile.

September 11, 2022

Had some family time today. Took lots of driving for some family time with my parents and sisters plus niece Aspen but it was worth the effort. Apparently my sister Denise is the marshmallow roasting queen. Such toasted goodness!

September 10, 2022

Darren asked me if I wanted to hike to Emerald Lake today. I usually decline because I can’t keep up but I appreciated the invitation so I said yes. We’ll guess what - I couldn’t hack it. I was a can’t hack it pantywaist who wears their mama’s bra. (Sandlot quote.) And it was really frustrating. 2 miles in and I was so spent that we turned around. Ugh. I don’t like not being able to hack it. And Baylie was looking at me like - that’s it? Ugh! So we came home and took Cam and Sadie (and friend Jessie) to The Pizza Factory.

September 5, 2022

Labor Day mini golf where Kenzie came out the winner. D and I each got a hole in one. Good times. Fueled up after mini golf at the Chick-fil-A. Light lemonade for the parched. (And root beer and Diet Coke).

September 4, 2022

I've been wanting to backpack to Red Castle and thanks to Darren and unseasonably warm temperatures (translated - not freezing at night) it happened.  3 day 2 night backpack was an awesome success.  Thoughts:

The castle really does look red at sunrise and sunset. The 10 miles in really is 10 long miles. No color for the sunrise or sunset but it was still gorgeous gazing up from my rock. Sunrise was especially cool as the light hit the castle. Blip. :)I like how the lake reflects the red. Pretty cool when the bald eagle circled over us as we went through the meadow. East Red Castle Lake was beautiful! The different colors of the water was cool. Red, yellow, and turquoise. I really liked that lake. My legs are so tired. How did the 80 year old lady we met make it? I want to hike like that when I’m 80. Always take the water filter on the day hike. I knew better. I was so thirsty. The stars! The debate - do I ever want to come back? Soooo many more people on Saturday night than Friday night. Friday was wonderful.  Friday was peace and quiet and Saturday was party town. Lake on Sunday morning was so still and had such a clear reflection. There was also a little steam coming off and geese that flew over and landed. It was a good send off. Darren is the best. A 10 mile hike out - we were done at 8.
