March 31, 2017

We said goodbye to snow hiking today with one last snow hike up Big Cottonwood.  Mr. Moose helped us bid farewell for a season.  We had hot cocoa and homemade snow ice cream.

I asked Lorien if she could go on a short and sweet hike today.  Apparently short and sweet means 8 miles and 4 hours.  :). We enjoyed a little mud and Ghost Falls and lots of exploring up Corner Canyon.

Tonight was the last performance for Sadie of her school play of "Momotaro".  She loved it!  She had so much fun being a River Spirit and a villager.  I had no idea it would be such a fun performance.  The 30 minute play ran smooth and the songs were great and Sadie was all smiles.  She was sad to see it end.  "Teach him well and he will be a blessing for you and your village."  :)

March 26, 2017

Good Sunday moments - 1.  The mini game of tag at my parents' house with Cam and Sadie.  2.  All my kids willing to go to church without complaint to a different ward.  3.  Seeing my 4th grade teacher at church - Mr. Tebbs - who was such a positive influence.  4.  Paddle ball with the kids - especially watching Kenz and Mason on a team.  5.  Cam and Rylie and Mason playing soccer with Don and Cheryl's dogs.

Rylie started our soccer season with a rainy game.  She had a really good game.

Also - good family time in Richfield bowling with my sister and the fam.

Found Howard W Hunter's talk about parenting that is so hopeful despite my parenting mistakes.  It's from October 1983 - Parent's Concern for Children.  "A successful parent is one who has loved, one who has sacrificed, and one who has cared for, taught, and ministered to the needs of a child.  If you have done all of these and your child is still wayward or troublesome or worldly, it could well be that you are, nevertheless, a successful parent.  Perhaps there are children who have come into the world that would challenge any set of parents under any set of circumstances.  Likewise, perhaps there are others who would bless the lives of, and be a joy to, almost any father or mother."

March 22, 2017

So peaceful this early morning sitting on the couch reading scriptures, listening to the rain, and watching the lightning.  It was only for about 5 minutes, but it was a good 5 minutes.

"As if we were climbing a tree-covered mountain, at times we don't see our progress until we get closer to the top and look back from the high ridges.  Don't be discouraged.  If you are striving and working to repent, you are in the process of repenting." - Neil L Anderson

March 18, 2017

Such a fantastic day playing in the goblins at Goblin Valley.  The Kings played with us. Hide and seek and climbing and playing and viewing and laughing and soaking up the sun.  For real animals we saw today - cows (Look!  Cows!), a tail-less lizard, some crows, and an antelope.  For rock animals we saw everything else, including a robot alien goblin and a disfigured cat.  Rylie and Cam played name that lip sync song on the drive home.  And Sadie ate the best grilled cheese she's ever had a Sherald's Drive Inn - in Price.

Take me out to the ballgame!  D and I went to a BYU baseball game on an amazingly warm March evening.  I loved sitting through the whole game talking ball with D.  Cougars lost to UConn.  They trailed all game, took the lead in the 8th, and gave the lead back in the 9th.  That happens.

When Mason jokingly says, "Call me DJ Mason Smith" and we do - for more than just a day.

I'm pretty sure we do FHE wrong, but I sure like having Monday night set aside for being together.  Tonight we played outside and then finished things up inside with Catch Phrase.  Fun, I know.

The moment when you get ready to go hiking and you put on hiking shoes, not snow boots.  Wahoo!  And your oldest daughter gets to come along.  Double Wahoo!

10!  My youngest is ten!  Happy birthday to Sadie.  Sure love that girl.  She's my adventure buddy and was so great today as birthday plans A and B didn't turn out.  She smiled through it all and made the day a good one.

March 4, 2017

Tonight when Sadie came home from a friend's house she looked older.  Sometimes they grow up just all of a sudden.  2 more days until she's 10.  Slow down time.

March 3, 2017

Such a good afternoon outside in some sunshine.  I made Rylie play catch with me and then we kicked the soccer ball around.  Cam and Sadie played on the tramp and there was even some hammock time.

March 2, 2017

Spruces never seems to disappoint for a snowshoe.  Today was sparkly soft snow, sunshine, snow cones, and a snowshoe hare.  It was so cool to see the rabbit.  He sat so still while we took some pictures.  And Lorien's snow cone mixture was so yummy.  Good day!
