January 30, 2016

I love watching a good movie that no one has seen before.  I watched "Goosebumps" with D and the girls and it was just a good movie.  It was fun to experience it for the first time together.

Found such a great Ensign article - Howard W Hunter, Ensign April 1992, "No Less Serviceable". "Not all of us are going to be like Moroni, catching the acclaim of our colleagues all day every day.  Most of us will be quiet, relatively unknown folks who come and go and do our work without fanfare.  To those of you who may find that lonely or frightening or just unspectacular, I say you are 'no less serviceable' than the most spectacular of your associates.  You, too, are part of God's army.

Found a new spot to snowshoe up by Tibble Fork.  Way fun and way pretty.

Extra thankful today for the opportunities to get out and enjoy nature.  I read 1 Nephi 17:36 before my hike and then read a great Ensign article after my hike ("Earth: A Gift from God" - February 2013).  Both of these reading reminded me of the blessing it is to be able to enjoy the earth and the beautiful places. Tom Reese, "Every tree, every mountain, every bird in the air testifies of our Heavenly Father's power.  By appreciating nature and treating the earth with respect, we show the Lord our gratitude for everything he has given us."  Also read a couple articles on keeping a hiking journal.  I've sort of been doing that by can step it up and record in more detail the parts I enjoyed and the things I saw and appreciated.

"We fail only if we fail to take another faithful step forward.  We will no, we cannot, fail if we are faithfully yoked to the Savior -- He who has never failed and will never fail us!" - Elder Bennett, October 2015 GC

January 24, 2016

It was movie night.  Lately Sunday nights are movie nights.  We had to make up a rule that we rotate who gets to choose the movie because we could never agree on what to watch and someone usually ended up either crying or angry.  Tonight it was finally my pick.  It was harder than I thought to choose a movie. First, you only get to pick every 6th movie night and B, you know someone isn't going to like the movie you pick.  I went with "Remember the Titans" and feel I made a good all around choice.  Phew.

I am enjoying Cam's basketball season.  Hopefully she is a little as well, despite the anxiety before the season started.  It's just that this season so far is just what's so great about sports.  Cam has a great coach who teaches the girls the game and then let's the rest play out - win or lost.  He encourages and challenges to make them better.  Her teammates are all working together and cheering each other on.  Some know the game well and are helping those along that done, and those that don't are allowed a chance to learn the game as they go.  A girl on Cam's team (Ruby) hasn't played basketball before and she made her first basket yesterday and was beyond excited.  The coach has a big smile on his face and her teammates gave her hugs and high fives and she jumped up and down with happiness.  It was a cool moment.

Good snowshoe up Dry Creek to the very deep, powdery first meadow.

And a great read of chapter 23 of Teaching of the Prophet - David O McKay, "Man's chief concern in life should not be the acquiring of gold, or of fame, or of material possessions.  It should not be the development of physical prowess, nor of intellectual strength, but his aim, the highest in life, should be the development of a Christ - like character."

Cam was so funny today on Martin Luther King day.  We were all talking in the kitchen and she says, "I have a dream - that one day I will have a dog."  She said it quite statesman like and patriotic.  Funny girl.

"Stand fast, ye Saints of God, hold on a little longer, and the storm of life will be past, and you will be rewarded by that God whose servants you are, and who will duly appreciate all your toils and afflictions for Christ's sake and the Gospel's." - Joseph Smith

Hanging out with the family makes such a good Sunday.  Games with Mason, coloring with the girls, church music, writing a note, watching all the kids play a card game, Sunday walk, seeing a cool bird, laughing with Kenz, making popcorn, watching a movie, listening to Mason tell the girls a bedtime story, reading scriptures, etc.

January 16, 2016

Good day.  The morning had a run where I saw an American Kestrel.  (I'm kind of into watching birds right now.  Weird.)  The afternoon had Cam's basketball game where she started to get into the groove.  She made her first basket and had quite a few steals.  Also K and T showed up to visit.  The evening D and I went out with the Kings and Bartholomews to dinner and comedy sports.  I do like to laugh.  Good day.

When your son randomly ask to go bowling then you go bowling.  Then you watch Sadie be the cutest leaning bowler and love it.  Then you bowl an amazing game of 175.  Then your son son doesn't want to go bowling with you again because you beat him.  :)

Cam is so funny.  Yesterday she did something and then she laughed and said, "Classic Camrie."  :)

January 7, 2016

Good two days with a friend or two.  Yesterday I went snowshoeing with Lorien up Pine Hollow.  The powder at the top was so deep and sometimes we sunk to our thigh even with snowshoes.  Walking back across the second meadow was pretty cool making sets of tracks.

Today I went to lunch with Jill and Jac Heaps.  If I can't go to lunch with Kenz, going to lunch with one of her friends will have to do.

Loved playing Spades with D, Mason, and Rylie.  Also loved hanging out with the girls after church at the kitchen table.  Now if only it would have been warm enough for a walk.  That happens.  Especially in January.

I just keep thinking how great our Moab vacation was.  So glad we went.
