April 30, 2012

I love the southern view near our house by the cemetery.

When I do get out and run I like to run over here where I can see this view.  (The picture doesn't do it much justice and it's even better with snow capped mountains.)

I must be rubbing off on Sadie - one time we were walking home from feeding the sheep a few weeks ago and we stopped at the top of the hill and I showed her the view.  Tonite she walked to the sheep with Darren and told him, "Dad, you've got to see this view."  That's my girl.

I love when kids have a good time at a park and I love when I get a great shot like this.

Kenz was so gorgeous going to Prom!

Lucky for Kenz she had like zero time after getting her hair done before her date arrived.  Only enough time for me to get about 2 pictures.  Yeah for getting this shot though which I love.

Mason is such a utility player.  Today's game had him playing defense and outside mid (or whatever it's called).

His headers are still my favorite to watch.

You don't realize how much you have missed something until you get a chance to see it again.

Oh how I have missed watching Kenz run.  Seeing her running out on the soccer field was awesome!  I told her it's fun to watch her run track but watching her run on the soccer field is even better - she is amazing and runs circles around the other soccer players.

Please that this recovery is really on the downhill...

I consider myself a simple girl, perhaps even a small town girl.
This city seems to be weighing down on me lately which made watching this bird and worm even more enjoyable than usual.

This scenario (and others like it) may have contributed to a part of why we are still in our "starter" home.
Mason and Clay kicking the ball back and forth across the street.  Amazingly Clay made a basket yesterday.

Cam's sick day home included a picnic at a park.
It's amazing how fast antibiotics work sometimes.

If I was a writer I could say thing much more eloquently.  But I'm not so the advice for the day sounds something like this:

Don't let how others do things make you feel like that's the way you should be doing things.  It might work for them, but you'll know what works for you.  And it's OK to do things different than others.

Also, if I was wise I would have known this before now but I am just putting this into practice.  Better late than never I guess.

How can it not be a good birthday when you get to hang out with your good friends?

It's time to start getting over feeling so old now that I have a 16 year old.  Let's face it, I don't just feel old, I am old.  That happens.

It was a bubble blowing, dandelion picking sort of day.
I like those days.

She has had so much fun riding her bike.
I took her over to the church today and just chilled and watched her have fun.  It was quite enjoyable.
I sure like living by the church.
(Sorry you have such a ghetto bike Sade.  :)

I'm sure that Kenz is Dr. Brady's favorite patient.  After all, we've spent plenty of time and money there.  Kenz has now experienced biopuncture, herbal patches, acupuncture, a foot scan, and has ran on a $40,000 treadmill.  Here's hoping it all pays off soon.

Braces.
Another place to put money that would be more fun put somewhere else.  That happens.  Straight teeth will happen as well.

Rylie's orange shoes are awesome!
Wish I had some but I'll settle for my pink shoes.

Here we are in front of the Vernal temple.
Love.

I was reminded of how inspired President Hinckley was.  This temple is so beautiful and unique.  I read this quote from him:
"It is not so much the major events as the small day-to-day decisions that map the course of our living. Our lives are, in reality, the sum total of our seemingly unimportant decisions and of our capacity to live by those decisions."

D and I went with this soccer player to Vernal.
I sure like watching him play soccer.  He's such a great team player.

I was able to spend quite a bit of time with Mason this week.  It was awesome.
He even taught me how to use the soda machine at Dairy Keen in Heber.  Fun, I know.

We walked down to see the calf.  This is as close it came to us.  That happens.

April 12, 2012

I had big plans to de-clutter and clean and go through closets while the 3 girls were gone.
Instead a did a lot of other things, like play Lego Rock Band with Mason.  Fun, I know.

April 11, 2012

The little kids stayed in Richfield for an extra 2 days.  The one thing I knew I wanted to do while they were gone is go on a hike.  I chose Ferguson canyon near Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.

Mason came with me since I needed someone to hike with.  He ended up totally enjoying the hike - as did I.  Thanks Mase.  That hike is now a good memory.

In the picture Mase is doing his Bear Grylls impression.  :)

Easter egg hunt in Richfield.  Fun, I know.

My parents' yard is fabulous for an egg hunt.  It's fabulous for a lot of things.  I love that backyard.

Spring Break day trip to Goblin Valley!  Woot, woot.
GV is one of my favorite places in Utah.

This was my favorite GV picture.

Happy Easter!
We don't get much into the commercialism of Easter.  We dye eggs, and my parents do an Easter egg hunt.  We mostly celebrate by going to church.

Here's a picture of some of the egg colorers - in their PJs.

Kenz being asked to Prom.  Too bad I couldn't slowly wade into this dating scene.  Instead it's a huge jump for Prom.  That happens.

Day 2 & 3 of D's spring break produced a clean garage.
Crazy how much joy a clean garage can bring.

Sadie is a 2 wheel biker!  Fun, I know.

It took about 20 minutes of running with her and she was off.  She's so cute and she loves it.

It's amazing (not to mention very frustrating) how many times 2 kids can walk past these and not take them downstairs.

April 1, 2012

Kenz and I made some homemade granola.  It is SO yummy.  Here's the recipe:

2 cups old-fashioned oats (not quick oats)
1 cup whole almonds...I use ½ cup sliced and ½ cup whole (I would use 1/2 cup sliced is all.)
1/2 cup raw flaked coconut or you can use regular coconut
1 cup raw cashews
1/3 cup (packed) brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup (packed) dried cranberries or any other such as raisins

Preheat oven to 300* F.  Mix first 7 ingredients in large bowl.  Melt butter with honey in heavy small saucepan over low heat.  Pour over granola mixture and toss well. Spread out mixture on baking sheet.  Bake 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.  Add cranberries; mix to separate any clumps.  Continue to bake until granola is golden brown, stirring frequently, about 15 minutes longer.
