October 31, 2020

October was a good month. And Halloween was low key - just like I like it. Ry dressed up as Rex from Napoleon Dynamite and Sadie wore her Tigger onesie. Cam dressed up as a Culver’s worker and went to work at Culver’s. :)

Darren got a good Halloween hike in up to Silver Glance.  He sent the Baylie pic at an amazing lunch spot.

Did the Timpooneke down Grove Creek hike that Lorien loves to do for her birthday. It was a little crazy this year with a distraught man and two men in a razor who are heroes and saved the guy and the day.

Good sacrament meeting. I especially enjoyed Elder Matthew Huff’s cello piece with Sister Butler accompanying him on the piano to “A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief”.

Good Sunday evening with the Randalls. Baylie and Penny are funny together and we got a couple rounds of Jokers and Marbles in.

Comedy and hiking for a road trip down south? Yes yes and yes! Darren and I hiked and laughed and hiked some more. If was fabulous. Our road trip also included some country music and hwy 89 with small towns which I love.

Brian Regan was hilarious! Darren got me tickets last Christmas and it was finally covid rescheduled at Tuacahn. He was so funny! Not funny - all the people that agreed to wear masks in the venue only to not wear their mask in the venue. Arg.

The two hikes we did we destination hikes with some serious drop offs at the end. Snow canyon overlook and Cable Mountain were great. Zion was looking so nice on Saturday. Thanks to the random people at Cable Mountain that we had been chatting with that pointed out we were on quite the precipice and snapped a picture. Now I’m terrified that I may have fallen to my death.

Happy Rylie’s birthday. I'm having a hard time recognizing that she is now 18.  We had a birthday dinner and played a little pickleball to celebrate. She celebrated with friends yesterday. She loves sunsets and she makes delicious smoothies.

Octoer 17, 2020

We had a fabulous time in goblin valley over fall break with Josh Drapers, Batemans, and Clayton and Sandee.

First off let’s mention the stars! They were amazing. And Clayton brought his telescope where we saw Saturn and a galaxy. We gaped at the Milky Way and shooting stars.

Second, it was way fun drawing with my niblings. Even lucee got in on drawing and coloring what I drew. Jack’s pirates were awesome and we loved Thursday night drawing in the trailer.

Third, the goblins are pretty cool. Taking Gracee to the goblins for her first time Thursday evening was so fun - hiding and playing and exploring. Then cousin goblin playing and group goblin exploring was a great Friday morning

Fourth, slot canyons are pretty cool. We decided leprechaun canyon was even better than little Wildhorse even though we had to drive an hour to leprechaun. Wildhorse had way too many people. That’s not fun even when it’s not covid season. Leprechaun had awesome walls and skinny sections and sand and crows where you could hear their wings flapping in between the tall red canyon walls. Sigh. Cam and Bridger were troopers for coming and were rewarded with shakes from Stan’s.

October 10, 2020

Quick one night escape to Capitol Reef was so great! Kelly and Rich had snagged a site in the Fruita campground and asked us to join them. It was too quick but better than nothing. Rich had never been to Capitol Reef before so it was cool to show him around.  Kelly said this is her 4th time going to Capitol Reef and every time has been with me.  Kinda cool.

We arrived about 6:45 and as we were almost to the campground we came upon such a cool scene with the barn and the rocks behind it lit up with the setting sun. Sigh. Then we quickly set up the trailer (site 71) and then headed to Torrey for dinner at Slackers. Good food (with fries and fried green beans) and good peach cobbler for dessert.

Then it was back to camp where we sat around the fire and chatted into the night and looked up to see an amazing night sky.

We woke up Saturday morning to such a beautiful morning. I just love the Fruita campground. You’re surrounded by beauty. And deer. Quite a few deer eating breakfast and one of them was about 8 feet from the King’s tent. He was fun to watch.

We hiked Cohab Canyon and Grand Wash.  In between the two hikes was some Gifford pie. Delicious in between hike snack.

After the hike we went our separate ways. D and I grabbed the trailer and had lunch before heading out. We made a stop at my parents on the way home which was a good idea. They needed a visit.

Happy Cam’s birthday! Super crazy that she is 16. She’s so great and really keeps me grounded. She makes us all laugh consistently and is the one who most easily brings us all together.

She likes ocean beaches, sleeping in, and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream (mostly Phish Food).

Today was spent hanging out with Rylie and Kaitlyn Murphy. (Roxberry, Zhao, ice cream, wigs, fun, etc.) We went to dinner with K and T at Zupas and then brought the party home for a minute playing Mario Kart where the birthday girl won the tournament.

As I am picking up poop in the backyard today, I realize my life has taken an interesting turn because I was just happy the poop was solid.

Bell canyon first waterfall hike was a great way to start October.

So was listening to some High School Musical.
