Quick one night escape to Capitol Reef was so great! Kelly and Rich had snagged a site in the Fruita campground and asked us to join them. It was too quick but better than nothing. Rich had never been to Capitol Reef before so it was cool to show him around.  Kelly said this is her 4th time going to Capitol Reef and every time has been with me.  Kinda cool.

We arrived about 6:45 and as we were almost to the campground we came upon such a cool scene with the barn and the rocks behind it lit up with the setting sun. Sigh. Then we quickly set up the trailer (site 71) and then headed to Torrey for dinner at Slackers. Good food (with fries and fried green beans) and good peach cobbler for dessert.

Then it was back to camp where we sat around the fire and chatted into the night and looked up to see an amazing night sky.

We woke up Saturday morning to such a beautiful morning. I just love the Fruita campground. You’re surrounded by beauty. And deer. Quite a few deer eating breakfast and one of them was about 8 feet from the King’s tent. He was fun to watch.

We hiked Cohab Canyon and Grand Wash.  In between the two hikes was some Gifford pie. Delicious in between hike snack.

After the hike we went our separate ways. D and I grabbed the trailer and had lunch before heading out. We made a stop at my parents on the way home which was a good idea. They needed a visit.
