November 25, 2023

Had a good afternoon with my mom. We had lunch from Ideal Dairy together with almost all of us (Cam had to stay home with her cold). The sandwich was good but they just seem to taste better on a trail. We also played 5 Crowns.  My mom must not have heard the "smile" prompt for our picture.

Enjoyed some Ryan Hamilton comedy tonight at the Delta Center with D, K and T. I love laughing. Ryan was funny and even though I had heard most of his material, I laughed a lot. The guy opening for him (Ivan Decker) was super funny. His popcorn but about the kernel getting stuck was so funny and relatable. Mi Ranchito was not the first choice for dinner but that’s where we ended up. Hay and water.

November 23, 2023

Great birthday trip and now home for Thanksgiving dinner in South Jordan with all my kids.

Things I really enjoyed about our trip:

Lathrop Trail. This trail was so enjoyable to me. I loved the views and seeing the land of canyons. The echo at the amphitheater was cool as was the diving board rock Darren made it out to. Seeing 4 people on a cool trail in a National park is awesome.
Stopping in Arches. Unnamed arch I named Birthday Arch that Darren took me to was cool. I didn’t make it into the arch but Darren did. The area it is in with the red rocks and other arches is really pretty.
Sunset in the windows area. Turret Arch always looks great at sunset. Darren’s timelapse that includes two Asian men was pretty entertaining.
Ray’s Tavern French fries in Green River were amazing. The next time I’m ordering me my own plate.
Canyon Co Pizza for birthday dinner at the hotel was a great way to end the birthday day.
I told Darren I was thankful I could be his plus one for his birthday getaway. While we both agreed we like green hiking, it’s pretty cool to get to hike in the desert in November in regular hiking shoes.

Happy Darren’s birthday! D and I are celebrating in Moab - Canyonlands and Arches.  Apparently most of the photos I have of him are from behind.  :)

This is how dog sitting Penny goes - she takes Baylie's toys and won't give them back.  :)  But she's cute and really likes us.

November 19, 2023

What a great weekend. Here’s a some highlights from it and from the rest of the week:

Sadie getting her license! (Hooray and phew.)
Rachael’s concert.
Taking my mom to Rachael’s concert.
South China for dinner in Richfield. Lemon chicken - mmm. Rylie and I both appreciate that dish.
Bryce Canyon.
Cotton candy clouds Friday morning.
2 really early morning runs after taking Sadie to road at 5:30am.
Cutie Odi and his little feet.
James 1:5-6 with a good Sunday School discussion.
The girls putting up the Christmas tree and some decorations.
Listening to Jo Bros Christmas song for the first time this year.
Mosiah 4:9 - Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.

We decided to visit Bryce today. Great choice! I said we should hike Fairyland Loop and Darren said we should hike Peekaboo Loop so we hiked peekaboo loop. :). D was right - that trail was magnificent today. The lighting was cool with moody clouds and we even had a little rainbow. The views were never ending and this is the best trail in the park (although I still haven’t done fairyland to compare. Found out that Ideal Dairy sandwiches taste fantastic in Bryce just like Capitol Reef. This was such a fabulous hike! A common raven showed us all his different calls. Also, this hike had more layers than Brahm’s piano concerto last night. Ha ha.

November 12, 2023

Life feels heavy. It’s hard stuff to navigate for my kids. School and work and the world - hard. Thankfully I know there’s Jesus.

2 Nephi 24:3 - And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall give thee rest, from thy sorrow, and from thy fear.

Got a hike in today. Happily surprised the gate was open and trail wasn’t too icy to get to Silver Lake. I love the views there. This evening was Panda Express with D, KT, C, S. The girls were singing along to a Celine Dion Christmas song. It made me smile.

Something to remember - how much Sadie loves Zupas. Grilled cheese with a side of Mac and cheese makes up a lot of what she eats. :)

The Lord Is My Light Hymn 89

The Lord is my light; tho clouds may arise,
Faith, stronger than sight, looks up thru the skies
Where Jesus forever in glory doth reign.
Then how can I ever in darkness remain?
The Lord is my light;
He is my joy and my song.
By day and by night
He leads, he leads me along.

Odi (Sadie’s crested gecko) came out to play today.

Another ladies' days Zion adventure at Deb's cabin is in the books. We had a great time with great weather. Some East Rim Trail, petroglyphs, Canyon Overlook (way cool seeing sheep along this trail), and Pine Creek Waterfall (we were the only ones here). We ended the trip with an early morning hike to Observation Point. I loved this hike and being at the point with 2 other people for a minute and then just us. We hung out there for a bit gazing down the canyon and thinking about how the fat chipmunks have had a good tourist season. :). Deb, Lorien, Sariah, Wendy, and me.
