May 29, 2021

Family Saturday at Kimberly’s wedding with most of my siblings (missing Cris). Kim and Lizzie are such cute nieces. I do like road trips through small towns and so driving to Antimony and back was quite enjoyable for me. And we stopped at The Hot Spot in Salina for my favorite fries.

Had such a fun hike today with Sadie. We went with Tamara and Becca plus Allison and Libby. Donut falls for the hike and then actual donuts after for the belly.

Got two hikes in today when Darren took me up by Tibble fork to the Tibble meadow. I do love AF canyon late May green.

Rylie’s high school graduation complete. Class of 2021 Skyridge High Falcons chapter is in the books.

Rylie excelled as a scholar. She earned the Falcon Scholar Award which was given to less than 10% of the graduates. Qualifications - 3.9 GPA, 3+ AP classes, extracurricular (thank you Spikeball Club), service to Skyridge community, and a high ACT score.

She also pretty much runs Roxberry and has since her sophomore year.

Graduation was at Rio Tinto Stadium where it took them 90 minutes to read the 712 names. Principal Perkins shared some good thoughts, “In mountain biking, if you focus on the obstacles, you will hit the obstacles. Focus on the space between the obstacles. Do the same in life - don’t focus on the obstacles.”
“You have the power to make other peoples lives better - use that power.”

Ironically, as Rylie wasn’t home much during high school, she wanted to spend grad night at home with family. It was wonderful. Also wonderful, Red Robin she chose for lunch after graduation - good food and good conversation

Great sabbath day. Good church, hanging out together, some rain, dinner (that included the Randalls and Rachael), siblings laughing together, games, and Rylie seminary graduation. I love seminary graduations. And of course we sang Hope of Israel. I love it!

This morning’s wake up with a song in your head song was - Dirt in My Boots.

It was a - gets lots done chore wise Saturday. Then chick Fil A with Cam and Mason with some REAL soccer watching with Mason plus a movie with D (Notting Hill from 1999) after his hike with Baylie. Boring stuff makes up a good life.

May 21, 2021

Went on a hike this morning and it was another struggle hike which is so frustrating.  It was rough making it to the first meadow of Dry Creek and that was it. That made for a 2.5 mile hike. 2.5 miles? That’s like a walk to the end of the street. I am so frustrated by that. At least it was green.

May 20, 2021

It has been great having the girls around this week. Ry is done with school and chats with me and is trying to figure out USU registration. (Plus Clayton and Sandee took her out to dinner to celebrate almost graduation.) Cam finished classes today and is so funny and sat on the tramp with Baylie today. Sadie is happy to play the ukulele constantly. I like hearing it.

Last night Darren took Baylie on a hike up Grove Creek to the spring. They found a skunk. It must have sprayed but not on him or the dog. However Baylie must have walked through some of the after spray or something because she has a skunk odor. Not horrible but enough that I got ingredients for a "get skunk smell off your dog" bath for him to do tonight.

Saw my parents. We had all of us, including Rachael, and I’m sure that won’t happen very often so I’m glad it could happen once with my parents. Played a game of Bocce for some entertainment.

May 15, 2021

Today I questioned why I think hiking is fun. D and I went on a hike from pine hollow parking lot to pine hollow peak and I struggled. He had to keep waiting for me and it was just frustrating. Plus the green is not quite out yet so it was a hard, long hike (8 miles) to an ok view. Green makes all the difference. But I’ll try hiking again and hope it’s more fun next time.

Plus I was trying to hike the West Rim Trail this weekend and it just didn’t work out. Thankful the kids were quite fun this weekend and I very much enjoyed spending time with them.

Happy Mother’s Day.

I found two scriptures that I really like plus a quote by President Hinckley - they have nothing to do with Mother's Day.

Psalm 19:1 - The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

1 Nephi 11:6 - Hosanna to the Lord, the most high God; for he is God over all the earth, yea, even above all.

“I believe in beauty - the beauty of God’s unspoiled creations, the beauty of His sons and daughters who walk without whimpering, meeting the challenges of each day.” - Gordon B Hinckley

I also found this article by Sister Eubank that is a good read:

Went on a hike with D and Baylie today. We hiked the Tibble Trail to above the meadow and back down. Thursday’s hike felt so good and today’s easier hike was a struggle.  Every uphill step was a challenge.  The green isn't out very far yet.  But as always - so nice to get out.

Russell and JJ came over to play. Funny boys. I smile every time JJ calls Darren “Draper”. He also says “Angee” so cute. Then Mason brought Connor Thrasher over for a minute since he is in town. I love when Connor comes to say hi.

I love when the days get longer.

I went on a hike today with Lorien. We started at pine hollow and went to the summit. We got 7.5 miles and got to sit on the picnic table at the summit. :) Oh - and there were glacier lilies!

Mason is officially engaged. We’re excited for him and Rachael. She’s going to be such a great addition to our family. Engagement happened in Maple Canyon.

May 1, 2021

We had just the best trip to Canyonlands! Like really great trip. Sure there were biting gnats, blisters, and bruised feet, but overall it was just totally awesome. Some might say it was sick. :).  Two nights in the Needles District of Canyonlands was so amazing!

Things to remember:
“I’m not eating subway twice.” - Darren
Taylor makes us laugh lots during the hike.
Long hike as you have to go all the way around. Still worth it as the needles were so cool. Such a different angles of the needles over in devils pocket.
Darren teaching the two younger boys the ways of backpacking and trail finding.
Bridger pulling out peaches and pears.
A little batting practice with Mason pitching. I went 3 for 4 and then gave Jaxon a turn.
DP1 awesome spot. The view - wow!
Mason climbing on top of the big rock. Taylor joining him.
Me climbing half way to enjoy the sunset and chat with the boys.
Jackson running into the tree 4 times.
Quiet.
Clayton - “look at this cool wind blown rock”. Mason - “it’s a dinosaur print.”  Ha ha.
Echo at DP1
Taylor is hearts king of DP1.
Coming to the joint trail and Bridger says - Sic!
Then the boys go on top of the cave and you could see them through a crack above.
Cheese whiz and spam sandwich that Clayton had for lunch.
Mason and Taylor stemming up the Joint Trail.
Clayton’s helpful walking stick to pull people up.
Finding water.
Darren guessing every 80s song Bridger played within 1 second.
Chilling at EC3 was quite enjoyable. We met Daniel.
Druid hike!
Mountain house lasagna tastes so good. Not sure how a dehydrated meal can taste better than my cooking but it does.
Mason is king of hearts EC3.
The quiet.
The stars.
Jaxon - “this reminds me of Rangely”.
